Spent a career in media. Television (director), radio (DJ), newspapers (editor, deputy editor, correspondent). Worked at NBC News and WRC-TV, The Washington Post, Navy Times and Defense News. Also photographer, historian, author, naval analyst and commentator. Lived in eastern North Carolina 1975-1977, DC (Capitol Hill and NW) 79-84, Bethesda MD 84-present. Still able to rock'n'roll until dawn.

Truly sorry to hear this. Randy was quite an accomplished professional. USNA Naval Academy grad of '75, a career submariner, retiring as an O-6 captain. Spent time on The Hill after retiring from the Navy, working for Chuck Hagel, then a brief swing in private industry, then as director for interagency coordination and development, first with DHS, then at US Northern Command and NORAD. Saw him a handful of times over the years when our paths crossed. Randy was, as they say, a Good Guy.
