LinkedIn Obituary: In Loving Memory of Jeffrey Peat With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Jeffrey Douglas Peat, 71 of New Park, Pennsylvania, who passed away peacefully on the morning of March 4, 2025. Jeff was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 20, 1953, to Douglas and Lorraine (Duca) Peat.

His early years were filled with adventure as he lived with his family in Germany, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Thailand, California, and Camp Springs, Maryland.

After graduating from the University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Jeff was fortunate to spend 47 years doing what he loved—working in agribusiness. Jeff’s professional journey took him across Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, and Pennsylvania. In 1977, he joined Southern States Cooperative as a management trainee in Shawsville, MD, and quickly rose through the ranks, serving as assistant manager in Taneytown, MD, Nokesville, VA, and Sudlersville, MD. As a store manager in Laurel, DE, and Whiteford, MD, he turned operations profitable through his leadership and dedication. Later, as branch manager of Helena Chemical Company in Shrewsbury, PA, Jeff’s store earned the prestigious Location of the Year award.

Beyond his professional success, Jeff found deep fulfillment in his community. Even in “retirement,” his passion for agronomy never faded—he founded Better Ag Consulting to continue helping local farmers grow better crops with his expertise and care. Jeff was a devoted family member, friend, and community leader, known for his kindness, generosity, and warm spirit. His love for his family and church was the foundation of his life. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his brother, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, and great-nephew, who were his greatest joy.

Though he is no longer with us, his spirit and the love he shared will live on in our hearts. May Jeff rest in peace, embraced by the love of those who have gone before him. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished. In a poignant turn of fate, Jeff had been planning a funeral for his mother, Lorraine Peat, before his passing. To honor both their lives, a joint funeral service will be held at Centre Presbyterian Church, 83 New Park Rd, New Park, PA 17352, on May 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Rest in peace, Jeff. You will always be in our hearts. ❤️🔥

Jeff Peat and I were never really close friends, but we did have some fun times together. Jeff had a little bit of a crazy streak in him, as did I. The last time I saw him was at University of Maryland, but have often wondered where he ended up and how his life turned out. After reading his obit. It seems he was very involved in the ag business which is what he wanted to do. Hopefully he had no regrets. Jeff was a fun and crazy guy and will be missed. Prayers and thoughts to his family. RIP Jeff.
