Another of our Class of 1971 has died. Carlton "Pete" Kennedy passed away on Saturday, July 23. Some of us also knew him by his other nickname - "Jump". He was diagnosed earlier this year with melanoma. At this time funeral arrangements have not been finalized. If anyone would like more information you can contact me (David Simmons)  at 240-808-3249. God Bless Pete and may light perpetual shine upon him.

So sorry to hear this about Pete Kennedy  I knew Pete in Camp Springs Elementary School and we roomed together in New York while on our sixth grade (Mr. Adler) class trip.  In fact, that is where I first heard of Pete's real name...Carlton Jump Kennedy.  Not sure where the "Pete" came from, but he was Pete to all of us.  We had a good time in New York seeing the sights and running the hotel hallways at night.  Pete discovered the shoe shine machine in the lobby...you know the ones with the red and black fuzzy spinning brushes with the start button on the pole...we wore that thing out.  Didn't take much in those days to entertain kids, I guess.  Anyway, we somewhat drifted apart through the rest of our school days together, but I remember Pete as a really good guy that always seemed to be happy.  RIP Pete.

Pete lived diagonally across from me and directly behind TomPelagatti and Chris Cavas and next door to Caroline King.  We had a great time playing after school ball, be it wiffle ball in Tom's yard , shooting hoops at Tom West's house, or football in the street. The original BMXers, we also rode bikes in the woods east of Westchester at the end of Coolridge and shot BB guns there too.  We took turns cutting the neighbor's lawn for a couple of bucks.  He developed a keen interest and skill in golf, which I could not match.  Either in Senior year or shortly thereafter, his family moved down to Tantallon Estates, and I only saw him once at a school reunion.  His parents and sister Jules were very nice to all.  His then Colonel father was one of my fees for getting into Navy OCS. Wish  I had kept up with him.  Rest In Peace my friend.

Classmates:

Just spoke with funeral home and you should be able to see Pete's funeral visitation and service details for next Thursday at this site, in Easton MD.  While there is no family written obituary, the funeral did not know of the funeral being for family only.

Thanks David for bringing Pete's loss to our attention.
