On February 4 2021 Bill Hartman passed away, here is what we know passed on by Jim Epps.

"Just got very sad news.  They found Billy Hartman dead this morning.  No one knows anything yet.  We have talked with Joyce (his ex-wife) and his Sister Janet.  He was having a nurse, occupational therapist and physical therapist coming in to help him after a series of falls.  The nurse was due to see him and could not reach him yesterday or this morning.  She went by and got in somehow and found him. "

Bill is survived by his ex-wife Joyce, their son Tim and Bill's sister Janet.  As more is known it will be posted.on the CHS 71 site.

Billy and I go back 55+ years to youth club baseball.  I really got to know him at Crossland High School when we played Football together.  We became good friends then that evolved into drinking buddies that finally evolved into almost a Brother-type relationship. Billy valued friendship like no other person I’ve ever known. Through all of these friendships, Billy touched many lives and almost everyone here today can probably tell a story of when or how Billy Hartman helped them at some point in their lives.  He would do whatever he could to help you if you needed something because he felt that’s what true friendship meant.  Billy didn't just talk the talk, he walked the walk when it came to being a good friend.

Billy was a great person who loved to laugh and have a good time.  He was known for his wit, his personality, his humor, his stories, and his colorful language, but most of all for his love for his Family and Friends.  I have wonderful memories of our friendship and times together and am happy that Billy is now at peace.

So sad, I am at a lost for words. Billy was always a good friend, classmate and person. He could always be counted on to help out if he could, he did for me as also he did for others. We were team mates on the CHS Football team and continued our friendship for 50 + years gettig together a couple times each year. Billy could always be counted on to bring lthe group alive, telling jokes or one of his stories. Bill was a good story teller. The times we get together now will be a lot different, Billy will be missed, I will always remeber the times after golf, or at Boy's Weekend, bowling or some other event.  Bill telling about his past romances, stirring Chilli or Jack Young yelling after getting tackled in the mud, " I can't see" after his helmet was twisted around his head. You could not ask for a better friend than Bill Hartman, Rest in Peace my friend.

I am so sad to see this.  I haven't seen Billy in a long time, but have fond memories of him in high school.  I loved his sense of humor.  When we were in our 20s, I ran into him at a club and we went out a couple of times. He was such a great guy!  Prayers for his family as they grieve his loss. 🙏🏻

So sorry to hear this sad news❤️I haven't seen Billy in a long time but always loved hearing about him. I met him in 2nd grade at St Phillips elementary. He was Tim Julians best friend for years.
Timmy was my boyfriend so between sports and socializing we were together a lot. My fondness memories were St Phillips teen club and CYO. He was a funny guy and I'm sure will be missed by his friends and family

Shocked by the words I read about Billy's passing, down from the shelf came our senior yearbook and I searched for the words written so long ago on one of the yearbook pages from a classmate who was the older brother I never had.  I smiled when I read the words of hope, encouragement and reflection and remembered a classmate full of life, kind, happy, outgoing and always sure to give his honest opinion.  He had such a comfortable swagger, was such a great guy and I will miss him, but will always remember the football games, school activities and fun when he was around.  Condolences to his family members and may God's grace carry you through this difficult time.  My heart is sad and hurting that #74 has been taken from the game.

I was sad to here about Billy.I had just seen him at the last golf outing ,and he looked like the same Billy we all remember. High school  seems like yesterday sometimes and sometimes like a hundred years ago. I miss the times we all had.Billy was a good friend. My condolences to the family.
